About Us

The Marlborough Tavern is older than the United States itself. The main house of the Tavern was the original home of the Buell family, who built the house sometime around 1740. In its early days, Marlborough, CT, was a bustling community with a vibrant social and commercial life. The Buell Tavern, as it was called back then, was located on "Governor's Highway," which ran from New London to Hartford. The men of Marlborough gathered in the Tavern's tap room after the Revolutionary War drew to a close, stacking their muskets and hefting a tankard of ale to celebrate their victory over the British. The historical roots of the Tavern run deep. President Andrew Jackson even once stopped in. The Buell family continued to run their business for over 100 years, until they sold it in 1868.
